London police are investigating after a suspicious package containing a white powder, which was sent to Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle, led to an anthrax scare.

The Metropolitan Police force said "a package containing a substance" was delivered to St. James's Palace, where Harry has his office, on February 12.

However, the Met said the substance "was tested and confirmed as non-suspicious."

The package, which was addressed to the prince and Ms Markle, was intercepted before it reached the couple.

The force said on Thursday that detectives are investigating an offence of malicious communication in relation to the package. The Evening Standard newspaper reported it contained a racist message.

Prince Harry and Ms Markle are due to marry on May 19 at Windsor Castle.

Earlier this month a letter containing white powder was sent to an office at Parliament, leading to a partial evacuation of the building. It also was found to be non-toxic.
