British ISIS recruit charged with terror offence after Heathrow arrest

Mamun Rashid, 26, was arrested on Thursday after flying in from Turkey

A man has been charged with the preparation of terrorist acts after his arrest at London's Heathrow Airport on Thursday.

Mamun Rashid, 26, from East London, was charged on Sunday after a police investigation.

He arrived back in the UK three days earlier on a flight from Turkey and was arrested on arrival at the London airport.

Turkey began the process of deporting British-born ISIS recruits back to the UK on Thursday and Rashid was among those.

Officers from London's Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism unit were understood to have flown to Turkey to escort the man back before arresting him, The Telegraph reported.

“A man has been charged with a terrorism offence following an investigation by the Met’s counter terrorism command,” police said.

Rashid is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on Monday.
