Efforts to put out the fire turned into a spectacular chase early on Friday after the driverless diesel engine began taking off towards Austria of its own accord, reports said
The burning train was near the village of Strass, when it started moving towards Freilassing station, the last German station on the railway line from Munich to Salzburg, Austria

With firefighters in pursuit, railway officials managed to switch the 'ghost train' onto a side track near Freilassing station, where it was stopped by a buffer, AP reported
