Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman joined Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on a walking tour of the ancient ruins of Al Ula.

They made the trip after the Gulf Co-operation Council gathering on Tuesday, where a joint declaration was made of renewed co-ordination on shared challenges, as well as a commitment to reopen borders within the bloc.

The GCC’s annual gathering emphasised co-operation on trade, energy and new technology, including artificial intelligence.

Al Ula governorate lies on the old “Incense Road” trade route, which flourished in the seventh century.

It includes the remains of a 2,000-year-old walled city built by early Bedouin settlers, the kingdom’s first Unesco World Heritage Site.
