DUBAI // A man who climbed into a car and threatened the driver at knifepoint has been sentenced to a year in jail.
The 27-year-old Pakistani was sitting in his Nissan Sunny at a bus station in Bur Dubai at 4.30am on March 27 last year when the Emirati, 29, got in and ordered him to drive.
“He suddenly got into the car speaking Urdu, saying he was Afghan, then ordered me to drive him to his destination,” the driver said. “I didn’t know the man so I refused but he started screaming at me, which scared me and I drove him where he wanted to go.”
The defendant then pulled out a knife and threatened to stab the driver, demanding he give him the car. The victim managed to escape from the car and took a taxi home before calling police.
