Workers acquitted of destroying property

Forty-four labourers have been cleared of burning 40 cars and destroying property of the company they worked for after their colleague died.

Forty-four labourers were cleared yesterday of burning 40 cars and destroying property of the company they worked for.

A supervisor told the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court he saw three of the men inciting 400 colleagues to go to the company's headquarters after a colleague was killed in an accident that the labourers believed was work-related.

The supervisor said investigations had shown the worker died of natural causes. Another supervisor said two men had taken iron bars from the construction site. However, neither supervisor saw the men destroying the cars.
