A worker was killed in a fire at a sponge factory in Mussaffah industrial on Sunday afternoon.
Lt Col Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, said the fire was reported to the operations room at 3.45pm.
As the flames spread, more crews were brought in from Al Wathba, Bani Yas East, Al Falah, and from a quick intervention unit in Mohammed bin Zayed City.
Firefighters worked on containing the blaze while police redirected traffic from the area.
Lt Col Al Ansari said investigations are still under way to determine the cause of the blaze, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.
