ABU DHABI // An Asian woman who was sentenced to seven years and two months in jail for the attempted armed robbery of a money exchange in Abu Dhabi in March this year has been told she must see out her sentence, the Abu Dhabi Court of Appeal has ruled.

The woman wore a black abaya, black gloves and a headscarf when she threatened employees of the exchange with what turned out to be a fake plastic gun.

An employee managed to overpower her and seize the gun before police arrived.

The woman will spend seven years in jail for attempted robbery, threatening to kill others and disrupting public security. The additional two-month jail term was handed down for illegally staying in the country in violation of the UAE Federal Law on Entry and Residence of Foreigners.

She will be deported after completing her sentence, reported WAM, the state news agency.
