SHARJAH // A mother who nearly died after falling from a second-floor apartment has been released from hospital.

Yemeni K?M, 22, suffered bleeding in her brain and fractured her pelvis and leg in the accident at her home in Ajman last month.

Dr Satish Krishnan, a neurosurgeon consultant at Al Qassimi hospital, said the mother of one was unconscious when admitted.

“We had to do four surgeries on her brain to save her life and to stop the bleeding in the brain,” Dr Krishnan said. “Then there was a tracheotomy surgery to help her breath easily through the neck.”

The mother only recently regained full consciousness. She has to return for regular check-ups.

Dr Krishnan said she had been given a wheelchair to help her move around and that it would take several months for her to recover.

Last week, a two-year-old Iranian girl fell to her death from a 14th floor apartment in Sharjah.

Rules for windows and balconies have been set out to prevent accidents. Windows in new buildings must be at least 1.2 metres high, and older properties must have devices to prevent windows being opened wider than 10 centimetres.
