Woman blinded in horrific Dubai acid attack

A woman is accused of throwing two litres of acid over her victim’s head, leaving her blind and disfigured.

Dubai Criminal Court heard the 48-year-old Kenyan was left with severe burns following the horrific attack in March.

Prosecutors say the incident happened as the victim visited her friend in Al Satwa to collect some shoes from his flat.

While at the property, the man’s female flatmate burst into the room she was sitting in and poured the acid from a bottle.

“I picked up my shoes but needed to use the toilet,” said the victim. “He [her friend] told me a flatmate was using it so I waited.”

Moments later, as the pair were sitting on the side of the man’s bed, the defendant, a sales executive, ran into the room.

“She poured the bottle over her, dousing her from head to toe,” said the male friend. “White smoke came out of her hair and the acid splashed on me.

“I was treated [at hospital] and sent back home the same day but my friend remained in hospital."

Later that day, police officers arrested the defendant, aged 30.

During questioning, she admitted attacking her victim with acid but later denied the charge in court.

A verdict is expected on January 22.
