Woman arrested ‘trying to steal clothes from H&M store’ in Dubai Mall

The Malaysian woman denied a charge of attempted theft and another of using official identification document belonging to another person when she appeared at the Dubai Criminal Court.

DUBAI// A 34-year-old woman arrested for trying to steal clothes from the H&M store in the Dubai Mall gave police her friend’s ID card.

The Malaysian woman denied a charge of attempted theft and another of using official identification document belonging to another person when she appeared at Dubai Criminal Court.

On May 30 last year, she walked into the store and stashed some clothes in her hand bag. As she tried to walk out of the shop a security guard stopped her, searched her bag and found the garments.

Police were called and she was taken to Bur Dubai Police station.

“She confessed to stealing during questioning and told me she used her friend’s ID without her knowledge,” said a Yemeni policeman, 36.

He said the woman showed the ID to Dubai Mall police and officers at the station.

The clothes she attempted to steal were valued at Dh461.

A verdict is expected on October 13.
