Woman admits to smashing iPhone in rage but denies threats and swearing, Dubai court hears

A woman threatened a mother that her son would be run over by a car if she did not give her Dh700, a Dubai court heard.

DUBAI // A woman threatened a mother that she would have her son run over by a car if she did not give her Dh700, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Tuesday.

Pakistani S A, 25, had been sharing a villa in the Al Mizhar 1 area with Emirati mother A A, 38, and her children for five months when the incident happened on April 12, prosecutors said.

The woman was said to have entered the villa through the kitchen before trying to attack one of the Emirati’s daughters.

The mother said: “The defendant was very angry – she came in and smashed an iPhone and other items in the kitchen, then she came to where me and my kids were sitting. She tried to attack my daughter, G. I told the kids to hide in a room and I locked the door.

Daughter G said: “I heard S A ask my mother for money, and threaten that if she doesn’t give her the money she will arrange to have my brother M mowed down in a car accident, or to have a group of people attack him.”

Emirati Policeman S M, 24, said: The mother told us she had been threatened by the defendant, and that S A smashed a phone, plates and cups that were in the kitchen.”

The defendant pleaded guilty to destruction of private property but denied issuing threats and swearing.

The next hearing is on July 8.
