An off-duty police officer has been praised for saving a driver from a burning vehicle.

Sergeant Mohammed Mahfouz pulled the motorist from the Nissan Patrol after extinguishing the flames pouring from the engine.

A video posted by Dubai Police on Saturday captured the incident as it unfolded.

He spotted the burning vehicle while on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, pulled over and tried to open the driver’s door. He is seen jumping on the car and trying to open the driver’s damaged door.

He then grabs a water hose from another vehicle and puts out the fire. Sergeant Mahfouz along with other motorists pulled the driver to safety.
