ABU DHABI // The cloudy, windy and wet weather that has plagued the country since Wednesday will continue to at least today.
The UAE has been experiencing unstable weather conditions, including thick clouds, high winds and scattered rain showers.
Yesterday morning, the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology recorded gusts of 91kph in Al Ain and 89kph in Abu Dhabi.
“Still the conditions are unstable in our area, so there is still a chance of more clouds and also a chance of rain,” a forecaster at the centre said.
“The wind will be continually active and at times will be very strong. These conditions will remain until Saturday morning.”
The cloud cover was expected to clear gradually, especially over western parts of the UAE.
Northern, eastern and southern parts of the country will remain cloudy for the rest of the weekend, with a chance of rain until midday today.
The UAE awoke to dark clouds, light rain and dusty roads yesterday, signifying a transition period in the weather as the country starts to move from winter to summer.
The weather bureau urged motorists to take extra care on the roads because of low visibility and blowing dust. Authorities also warned residents to avoid wadis and be careful when swimming or taking part in watersports in the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman.
“The main feature for this time of the year, which is the first transition period between winter and summer, is the successive and quick changes in the weather,” a forecaster said.
This week, the centre released a severe weather alert warning residents about dust storms and clouds. Spectacular lightning storms lit up the skies across the country on Thursday night and heavy rain continued into the early hours of yesterday morning.
The maximum temperatures expected in internal areas today were between 32°C to 38°C, with minimums of 14°C to 21°C.
Coastal areas will be cooler, with maximum temperatures of 26°C to 33°C and minimums ranging from 15°C to 22°C.
