ABU DHABI // Commuters across the UAE encountered heavy fog on the roads early Tuesday morning with the capital experiencing the worst of it.
Abu Dhabi police urged motorists on Twitter to be extra cautious as fog formation caused low visibility on streets leading into and within the capital.
Residents and commuters took to social media to post pictures of the weather. Some at street level showed blanketed roads while those at higher altitudes showed entire neighbourhoods covered in thick fog below.
Dubai Police reported an accident on Sheikh Zayed Road near the Trade Centre tunnel towards Jebel Ali.
The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology issued warnings for much of the coastal areas as well as parts of Al Gharbia, urging people to watch out for hazardous weather.
The centre warned of continued low visibility on its Twitter account, saying that visibility had dropped to 100 metres in the Al Dhafra region on the outskirts of the capital.
Heavy fog was also reported by the centre on Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road in Dubai as well as fog and mist in Sharjah and the Liwa region in the west.
Similar conditions could be in store for the next few days as forecasts predict an increase in relative humidity during nights and early mornings reaching up to 95 per cent in the coastal areas.
Temperatures are also set to rise with the internal parts receiving highs up to 40°C.
