UAE summons Iraqi ambassador over comments on Saudi Arabia’s link to terrorism

The Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Maliki has alleged that Saudi Arabia supports terrorism.

The Iraqi ambassador to the UAE, Muwaffaq Mehdi Abboud, was summoned on Wednesday and handed a formal letter outlining the UAE’s condemnation over statements made by the Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Maliki

Mr Maliki alleged that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supports terrorism.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Anwar Gargash, said the statements were “totally unfounded and are not based on any correct assessment in the region with regards to terrorism, especially because the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia plays a prominent role in fighting terrorism in all its forms and manifestations”, the state news agency, Wam, reporte.

The UAE, he said, appreciates Saudi’s contribution in the fight against terrorism.
