ABU DHABI // A high-level delegation from the UAE Space Agency visited several organisations in the European space sector last week.

The meetings were to strengthen cooperation and partnerships between the agency and the Europeans.

Dr Khalifa Al Rumaithi, chairman of the agency, discussed opportunities to exchange knowledge and experience in space technology and science. One of the visits included the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs.

The delegation also met with senior officials from the Italian Space Agency and the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) of France. Officials praised the agency’s plans as a positive step and expressed a strong desire for joint cooperation.

“The meetings were a success by all measures,” Dr Al Rumaithi said. “We examined advanced, pioneering projects and briefed stakeholders on our plans for partnerships in aerospace. Without a doubt, the results we achieved on this trip will allow all stakeholders the opportunity for feasible joint projects and scientific endeavours.”

Dr Mohammed Ahbabi, the agency’s director general, added: “We look forward to launching the UAE onto the world stage through the various aerospace committees affiliated with the UN. These committees are established as a platform for discussions on the challenges, opportunities and latest developments in the aerospace sector so, by participating, we are striving to put the UAE on the aerospace map.”

He said the partnerships would contribute to the enrichment of scientific sectors, aerospace technology and stimulate research and study.
