Proposals are being accepted for an international robotics competition in the UAE boasting more than US$5 million (Dh18 million) in prizes.

Organised by Khalifa University, the Mohammed Bin Zayed International Robotics Challenge is held every two years.

Prospective teams are being asked to submit their proposals by November 7 to participate in the event, which includes several competitions involving aerial and ground robots and takes place in an outdoor open arena.

To date, 316 teams from 163 institutions in 45 countries have expressed their intent to participate in the challenge, which is scheduled to take place in 2017.

“The representation across academia and industry is also encouraging, as the innovations created by our contestants will no doubt have widespread effects on the field of robotics and determine how new technologies are applied in the future,” said Dr Mohammed Al Mualla, Khalifa University’s Senior Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies.
