SHARJAH // A senior judge has had a book published on terrorism and the country's law.
The Confrontation of Terrorism in UAE Criminal Legislation has been written by Dr Saeed Ali Al Naqbi, the chairman of the Court of First Instance and a lecturer at the Institute of Training and Judicial Studies in Sharjah.
In its 220 pages, the author details the crime of terrorism, its causes, effects and discusses national legislation on terrorism, and how the state can confront the global issue at a local level.
Dr Mohammed Mahmoud Al Kamali, the director general of the institute, which published the book, said that its main objective was to promote research and legal studies as well as publish legal and judicial books that would strengthen the rule of law.
"This book is the 14th we have issued in the legal and judicial field," he said. "We hope it enriches legal and judicial studies and is added to the reference books on legal practice in the UAE."
Dr Al Naqbi said that terrorism was very dangerous to communities as it signalled the loss of a sense of security, destruction of sanctity, life and property.
He added that terrorism manifested itself in many forms, including murder and kidnapping.
"And the perpetrators of such acts are only broadcasting fear and panic among the residents," he said.
"The legislature in every country has to intervene and make legislation to curb the phenomenon of terrorism."
