ABU DHABI // An Emirati girl has won a top prize at the International Hashemite Quran Memorisation Contest in Jordan. Saleha al Jaberi came first in her category at the fourth annual competition, held between last Sunday and Wednesday, for her ability to learn 25 chapters of the Quran, the state news agency, WAM, reported. Saleha was nominated by the Dubai International Holy Quran Award for two first place awards in the five- and 10-chapter categories, as well as the second place award in the nationwide 20-chapter competition.
Following her success in her first international competition, Saleha said she planned to take part in other contests, including events held in Algeria and Libya. She expressed her gratitude to the Dubai International Holy Quran Award for the opportunity to represent her country and dedicated her achievement to the people of the UAE. hdajani@thenational.ae
