AL AIN // A court on Wednesday postponed for a third time its verdict on the case of a Filipina maid sentenced to death for killing her Emirati employer in Al Ain.

The Philippine embassy in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday said the verdict was delayed again because the sons of the victim, whom the maid claimed was trying to rape her at the time of the murder, did not attend the hearing.

The verdict on the fate of the 28-year-old from the southern Philippines was originally scheduled for February 27, then moved to March 27.

The lawyer for the victim’s two sons told the court that the sons refused to swear since the maid had already admitted to killing their father during the investigation of the case.

The judge ordered the sons to appear before the court on April 26. “They will again be asked to swear before the court 50 times in the name of Allah that the maid killed their father,” the embassy said.

“Failing this, the court will ask the maid during the hearing to swear to God 50 times that she did not kill the victim intentionally.”

Filipina politicians on Monday asked Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte, who is visiting Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar this week, to help.
