Restructuring the Ministry of Education and laws on curbing bankruptcy were among topics discussed at a Cabinet meeting on Sunday.

Under the changes, the ministry is to have two new undersecretaries and six assistant undersecretaries appointed with specific responsibilities in changes that fall in line with the country’s Education Plan for 2015 to 2021.

“Rapid developments around the world and in the UAE require a unique educational system to meet the development needs and make the Emirati school a model school globally,” said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

“We all have a national duty to shoulder towards preparing our sons and daughters and Emirati generations to come and to reach number one ranks in the world.

“Our work should be based on a strategic vision that will have an organisational structure that is flexible and advanced; which does not have an overlap of work or delegations.

“It will support innovation and spirit of taking initiatives. We want to realise the best investment in utilising Emirati expertise to lead the education work in the UAE and to convey the sublime message of educating generations to come.”

The new structure will see two undersecretary positions created, one for academic affairs, one other for quality and supporting services, and assistants to support the ministry in areas including curriculum development.

At the start of the meeting, Sheikh Mohammed and other Cabinet members offered a prayer on the 11th anniversary of the death of the founding President, Sheikh Zayed.

“It has become a leading country in the world, and we should celebrate Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, which coincides with 19th of Ramadan every year,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

The Cabinet was held at the Presidential Palace and those attending included Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
