ABU DHABI // The UAE has broken the world record for the most people carrying a flag banner to mark the celebrations for the 43rd UAE National Day.
A total of 2,139 Emirati students from the Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute carried the two kilometre-long UAE Flag a distance of 230 metres at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, which helped sponsor the event.
“The extraordinary feat achieved by our young Emirati students has enabled us to take the country’s honour and name on the world map once again,” said Dr Addel Al Ameri, managing director at Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute.
Guinness World Records confirmed the team broke the previous record set in Italy in 2011, where 1,795 participants carried a 1.8 kilometre long flag.
Officials from Guinness World Records measured the length and breadth of the flag and counted the number of participants to verify the record.
“It is an honour for us to be part in helping the UAE achieve another world record,” said Adnan Al Nuaimi, managing director of Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.
“We are thrilled to see the young Emirati generation contribute in elevating their country’s name worldwide, which adds a rich flavour to the event.”
