ABU DHABI // The UAE has recalled its Ambassador to Ireland amid allegations that he and his family mistreated domestic staff.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is “aware” of a decision made by Ireland’s Employment Appeals Tribunal in the case of Ambassador Khaled Nasser Lootah.

“The UAE takes this matter seriously, and accordingly has decided to recall him to Abu Dhabi while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs investigates the issue further, in line with existing procedures,” the Ministry said.

Mr Lootah has been ambassador to Ireland since February 2010, and began working at the ministry in 1984, first serving in the diplomatic and consular section, then in finance and administration.

He also has worked in the UAE embassies in Morocco and Pakistan.
