DUBAI // A pretend pimp is charged with inciting sin by posting pictures of naked women on Twitter and offering what he said was false promises of sex with them.

The 19-year-old Moroccan student, who was not present in court to enter a plea, previously told prosecutors that he was duping potential customers out of phone credit but that he didn’t “actually have any prostitutes or anything”.

It was not revealed how he was arrested but court records said that in July and prior to that he had been posting images to lure customer who wanted to have sex with the women pictured.

Police offered court a list of money transfers that they say he received from customers and details of the phrases he used that promote sin and sex services.

The student, who lives in Muhaisnah 4, told prosecutors that he was profiting from being a pretend pimp and asking the customers to send him phone credit.

He said that nearly 9,000 people follow him on Twitter and more than 600 customers contacted him but only 300 sent him phone credit - worth a total of Dh8,000.

The accused was arrested on August 8 and detained at Al Qusais police station.

The next hearing is on October 19 to summon him.
