ABU DHABI // Truant children are believed to be behind a number of attacks in Khalidiya in which glass bottles and other objects were thrown from a high-rise building. Several people have been injured, car windows smashed and property damaged in the attacks. Residents fear someone could be killed. Late last Friday, residents in the block containing Al Jaber Jewellery store, next to the Union National Bank, were alerted by the police that at least five cars had been damaged that day alone.

The building's security guard confirmed there had been a number of incidents in the past few weeks, including one in which a cleaner sustained head injuries when a green glass bottle was thrown from one of the upper floors of the 14-storey building. "It's got to the stage where someone could get killed. You have a lot of young mothers and children walking around here," said one resident, Dr Samia Tufail, whose husband's car was damaged on Friday.
