Tricktionary: what to look out for

When riders hit the dirt on Friday evening, they’ll be showing off an arsenal of top-notch tricks, flips and jumps.

Here’s a sample of what to expect:

Cliff hanger – The rider leaves the bike, hooking his feet under the handlebars. While in the air, the rider lets the handlebars go and stand straight up with hands in the rollercoaster position.

Tsunami – Similar to a handstand in the air, performed over the front of the handlebars while keeping the bike horizontal and level. The rider comes off the ramp, extending his feet towards the ceiling while throwing the rear end of the bike down.

Bike flip – Described as the most technical trick on the tour. Off the quarter pipe ramp, the bike does a full backflip and a 180-degree rotation while the rider has jumped off the bike, hanging only with one hand on the handlebars.

The 360 – The rider carves a corner during the take-off on the ramp and together with his bike spins a full 360-degree rotation in the air.

Lazy boy flip – The rider lies back flat on the seat with his hands back, while he is upside-down. His entire body is parallel to the bike, as if the rider was on the floor lying on his back.
