UFC Fight Island: month-long road closure in place on Yas Island

The Department of Transport urged motorists to abide by all traffic rules after announcing Yas Drive would be sealed off to traffic

Motorists have been warned of an immediate road closure on Yas Island as work continued on the much-anticipated UFC Fight Island.

With days to go until the event gets under way, the Department of Transport said Yas Drive would be closed from July 2 until July 30.

In a tweet, the authority urged motorists to abide by all traffic rules during the temporary road closure.

The inaugural fight festival will begin on July 12 with the pay-per-view UFC 251 and will continue in the weeks following with three consecutive fight nights on July 16, 19 and 26.

The road closure falls in line with a number of safety measures that have been set in place to coincide with government safety measures against the spread of covid-19.

All those working on the event, including UFC athletes, coaches and event staff will be housed with the 25km safe zone which includes the arena, a hotel, training facilities, and restaurants.
