Umm Al Quwain Police General Command has announced that smart, road surveillance cameras have been installed throughout the emirate and are now operational.
Lt Col Hamid Mattar Ojail, director of the Investigations Department at UAQ Police, said the cameras will be used as part of the first phase of increased surveillance to support the command’s objectives in maintaining safety and security. They act as a third eye for police officers and can be used to track down offenders, he said, adding that the cameras would also be useful in limiting burglaries, after a 2 per cent increase in burglary cases was reported in the first half of this year in the emirate this year compared to the same period last year.
