Motorists heading to work in Abu Dhabi and Dubai experienced “smoother than usual” traffic flow this morning, despite the private sector returning to work following the Eid Al Adha holiday.
“The streets were empty, seems like many people are still off today,” said Shayma Zayadneh, a 28-year-old underwriting officer from Jordan.
Driving in the capital from Khalifa Street through Najda Street to Muroor, she said traffic lights were “a blessing” as compared to what she usually experiences during morning rush hour on weekdays.
“In normal situations, I stop twice at the traffic light from Najda to Salam, and up to three times on the signal to Nahyan Camp.”
“But today I did not have to wait at all, barely stopped once at each.”
Ms Zayadneh said she did not see any crashes.
As schools are closed until next Sunday and many appear to still be on holiday, she said her only challenge was finding a parking space outside her office building on Reem Island.
“There was no space available in the free or paid parking,” she said.
Similarly, traffic was smooth in Dubai for Mathias K as he drove to work at 8am from Barsha to Al Quoz.
“Traffic was super easy,” the 36-year-old managing director from Germany said.
He attributed the smooth commute to schools still being closed for Eid.
“This is the main problem usually because everyone is dropping their kids to school, this is what makes the streets so busy.
“Back home everyone is using public transport, no one is dropping anyone off, even the school buses here should have a gathering point and not drop and pick up.”
He did not come across any accidents on his journey either.
