ABU DHABI // The number of vehicles on the roads of Abu Dhabi emirate rose by 20 per cent in 2012 to more than 830,000 vehicles.
The increase of 172,523 was confirmed by the Department of Vehicle and Drivers' Licensing at Abu Dhabi Police, raising the total number of licensed vehicles in the emirate to 830,576.
Department head Colonel Suhail Al Khaili told The National's Arabic sister paper, Al Ittihad: "All of the department's branches and divisions are operating under the comprehensive officer system to provide the smooth licensing of drivers and vehicles and to save customers time and effort."
He emphasised the importance of customers registering their mobile phone numbers to receive text message notifications.
