Stiff fines for breaking Dubai Tram traffic rules

DUBAI // With the inauguration of the Dubai Tram just a day away, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has warned of stiff penalties for those who violate the new traffic rules. RTA has urged both pedestrians and motorists to familiarise themselves with the new road signs that have been put up along the 10.6-kilometre track. The traffic violations fines range from Dh500 up to Dh30,000.

Throwing waste on the tracks - Dh500

Crossing the tracks anywhere other than the designated areas - Dh1,000

Unauthorised access to prohibited zones - Dh1,000

Interfering with or attempting to interfere with the operation of the tram or affect its safety or the safety of its infrastructure - Dh2,000

Unauthorised interception of the tram on the tracks - Dh3,000

Driving through red light without causing a crash - up to Dh5,000 and impounding of driving licence for up to three months.

Causing a crash leading to bodily harm - up to Dh15,000 and impounding of driving license for up to six months.

Causing a crash leading to death - up to Dh30,000 and impounding of driving licence for up to a year.
