AJMAN // Speed limits on a number of roads have been reduced by Ajman Police in an attempt to reduce the number of run-over accidents.
Limits have been reduced by 10kph on many busy roads in Ajman, said Col Ali Al Musaibi, director of the traffic and patrols department.
“These adjustments have been made to reduce the number of car accidents. Recent statistics showed that these roads witnessed the highest percentage of accidents, and high speed is the main cause of the accidents on these roads,” he said.
The move was decided on Wedesday during a meeting held by the Traffic Safety Committee chaired by Brig Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of Ajman Police.
The reduced speed limits will be effective from May 1.
Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed roads see a reduction from 80kph to 70kph, with speed cameras flashing at anyone travelling faster than 91kph.
On Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi and Kuwait streets, the speed limits will be decreased from 60kph to 50kph, with cameras set for 70kph.
The speed limit on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Road will be reduced from 100kph to 90kph, and radars are set at 111kph.
On Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, the speed limit will be decreased from 100 to 80km/h with radars catching motorists exceeding 100km/h, in addition to bumps and plastic cones that will be placed at the exits of petrol stations to require drivers to reduce the speed and be attention before entering the highway.
