SHARJAH // A police officer was injured on Wednesday after a vehicle crashed into his stationary patrol car.

The officer had been helping a motorist whose car had broken down on Al Dhaid Road when the accident occurred.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

The accident resulted in major tailbacks on Sharjah Airport Road, during rush hour.

Police reminded motorists to stick to traffic regulations and refrain from speeding, especially during wet conditions.

In June, a Dubai policeman was killed while he was directing traffic on Emirates Road.

Sergeant Hayan Ali, 24, was securing the way for a lorry loaded with asphalt, near Al Rawiya Bridge, when another lorry smashed into the back of his car killing him instantly.
