DUBAI // Work to improve roads in 13 residential areas has been completed at a cost of Dh552 million as part of a Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) five-year development plan.
Construction is continuing in five more districts that will take the spending of the works past the Dh870m mark.
Internal roads are being improved on a 53-kilometre stretch at Al Barsha South 1 and 7km of feeder roads at Al Barsha South 2.
The improvements will provide an additional entry to Al Barsha South 1 from Umm Suqeim Road, and on Al Barsha South 2 from Hessa Road.
Mattar Al Tayer, RTA chairman of the board and executive director, also announced that a tender for road construction at Al Khawaneej 2 and Nad Al Sheba 4 would be released in November.
“These projects are part of the five-year plan endorsed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, costing more than Dh1 billion,” Mr Al Tayer said.
“It underscores the keenness to improve and upgrade internal roads to meet the demographic and urban expansion.”
Other work includes a traffic signal at Amman Road to streamline the traffic flow at access points of Al Nahda 1.
