DUBAI // The go-ahead has been given to phase two of the Dh178 million Seih Assalam Road dual carriageway project.

The Roads and Transport Authority has awarded a contract to build the road, which will extend about 21 kilometres from Al Qudra Roundabout up to the intersection of the Dubai–Al Ain Road.

“The project comprises widening of the existing road through Al Lisaili and Al Marmoom, to make it a dual carriageway of two lanes in each direction,” said Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors of the RTA.

“Works also include constructing nine roundabouts to ensure a safe and smooth traffic flow in those areas, four crossings for camels and horses, a cycling track, service roads and car parks, besides broadening the existing parking lot of the Dubai International Endurance City.

“Project works also include street lights, a rainwater drainage network and rail along the median to fend off casual U-turns.”

Earlier this year phase one of the project opened, extending 12km from Bab Al Shams resort and Dubai International Endurance City up to Al Qudra Roundabout.

Last year the widening of Al Qudra Road to three lanes in each direction from the intersection of Jebel Ali–Lehbab up to Bab Al Shams Roundabout was completed at a cost of Dh110m.
