SHARJAH // Municipality officials have refuted claims inspectors are fining motorists for overstaying the time on a parking ticket without first allowing a grace period.

Atif Al Zaroni, director of Sharjah Public Parking Department, denied reports claiming inspectors are fining motorists just one minute after their ticket expires.

“The inspectors have tools and equipment that calculate the time and the grace period,” Mr Al Zaroni said.

The municipality said inspectors are qualified and trained to abide with the rules and regulations set by the municipality.

“Allegations that inspectors would fine the motorist without giving the grace period are wrong,” added Mr Al Zaroni.

“Motorists who feel that they were fined by mistake can submit a complaint to the municipality. If we find that it was wrong, we will waive the fine,” he continued.
