ABU DHABI // More than 4,000 vehicles in car parks and open areas of Mussaffah Industrial Area abandoned in 2015 are being monitored by the Abu Dhabi Municipality.
Some 492 vehicles were impounded last month in the Mussaffah area, including tankers and light vehicles.
As per an amended 2012 law, the notice period has changed to three days from the earlier 14 days, after which the inspector notifies a towing company to remove the vehicle to the Al Wathba impound station.
A Dh3,000 fine is levied and if the offender reports to the municipality, a settlement of paying 50 per cent of the fine may be offered. If the offence recurs, the fine will be doubled and daily impound fees levied.
This is part of the municipality’s drive to educate the public to stop abandoning vehicles that are in poor condition.
