Indians in the UAE can now get India-issued international driving permits renewed at the embassy in Abu Dhabi.
India's embassies around the world and the country's Ministry of Road Transport and Highway have come together to offer this service to their citizens.
The International Driving Permit is issued in India and accepted in 130 countries – including the UAE, UK, USA, Germany, Australia, Canada and Switzerland.
From Monday, IDP holders can visit Indian embassies in the countries where they are living, get their documents verified and apply for the permit to be renewed.
The embassy in Abu Dhabi will provide the service between 8.30am and 12.30pm, Sunday to Thursday.
Applicants should bring their passport, expired IDP number and a valid Indian driving licence. There is a Dh40 ($10.89) consular fee and an Dh8 Indian Community Welfare Fund charge.
Consular staff will verify the documents, which will be uploaded on https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/ – India's licensing authority.
The renewed driving permit will be sent to the applicant’s home after documents are approved by the authorities in India.
