ABU DHABI // More than 100 parking spaces for motorbikes have been introduced in the capital by the Department of Transport.
The move was part of a plan to improve safety and traffic flow, the department said.
The customer service department at Mawaqif said that the 142 parking spaces were exclusively for motorcycles and that owners of cars that park in them will face a Dh500 fine and have their vehicle towed.
The parking spaces are narrow but long enough to accommodate three motorbikes, Mawaqif said.
The spaces are free to use and motorcyclists will only be fined if their bikes are parked in a way that blocks the flow of traffic or are left in a parking space for three consecutive days. After giving the owner notice to move his motorbike, it will be towed on the fourth day.
