DUBAI // Three new lanes forming part of the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road Widening Project will be opened on Friday, the Roads and Transport Authority has announced.

It means there will now be a total of six lanes from Al Yalayis Road to Jebel Ali–Lehbab Roundabout in the direction of Abu Dhabi.

“Completing this sector of the project would significantly contribute to the smooth traffic flow, especially for vehicles coming from the existing Al Houdh Roundabout towards Abu Dhabi,” said Nabeel Mohammed Salih, director of Roads at the RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency.

“This is the first phase of Al Yalayis Interchange project, which comprises four phases to be completed by [the] end [of] November 2016 according to the project timetable.”

The RTA also opened three lanes of the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road Widening Project, in February of 2015.

That added six lanes in both direction that stretched over seven kilometers from the Al Maktoum International Airport roundabout to Jebel Ali–Lehbab Roundabout, he said.

“It contributed to a smooth flow of vehicles from Al Yalayes Road heading east towards Dubai Investment Park, and west towards Sheikh Zayed Road and Jebel Ali Free Zone,” he said.

“It also eased the movement of north and south-bound vehicles on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to and from Abu Dhabi.”
