Emirates Airline debuted its first aircraft featuring a new Expo 2020 livery on Wednesday, the first of 40 aircraft to have a dedicated expo design.
The Dubai carrier will install three different decals focusing on the event’s themes: opportunity, mobility and sustainability. The first decal applied on the Boeing 777 covers 40 per cent of the surface area, requiring six members and 84 hours to complete the installation.
Fourty planes, both Airbus 380s and Boeing 777s, will have the large side decals while each airplane in Emirates’ fleet will carry n Expo nose design.
The Dubai carrier is the official airline partner for the expo, which will host more than 200 participants and millions of visitors to the city. “We are planning to host the first World Expo where the majority of our visitors will be travelling internationally,” said Reem Al Hashimy, director general of Expo 2020. “By carrying our logo across the world on its aircraft, Emirates is playing an important role in helping us promote that goal.”
This is the first time that the event, which began in 1851, will be hosted by a Middle Eastern city. And Emirates expects to be a significant carrier for visitors and participants being within an eight hour flight to two-thirds of the world’s population.
“Expo 2020 Dubai will be an important platform facilitating a global exchange of ideas, collaborations and partnerships across a range of industries and domains,” said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Group.
