The Emirates Flight Training Academy was inaugurated on Monday, four years after it was first announcement, by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, during the Dubai Airshow.

The school, which includes 36 classrooms and ground-based simulators, can accommodate up to 600 cadets at one time. Also included will be 27 training aircraft, worth US$39 million, and has so far received six of the total aircraft order.

“Students will not only get the best training but will be able to enjoy comfortable living standards while undergoing training,” said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline and Group.

“The academy will set new benchmarks for next-generation pilot training relying on innovation and partnering with industry training organisations, strengthening Dubai’s position as a global hub for aviation.”

Both male and female students will be admitted into the academy, receiving a commercial pilot licence on a multi-engine aircraft. The course length will range from 21 months to 3.5 years dependent on cadets requiring foundation courses in addition to the regular curriculum.

The first cadet class, part of the UAE National Cadet training programme, has been relocated to the new centre when previous training would have been completed overseas.
