DUBAI // The Roads and Transport Authority will provide video footage to the Dubai Public Prosecution of any accident on the Dubai Tram once the system is up and running.
The RTA will immediately notify the prosecution of any accident, prepare a report and hand over videos taken by the tram’s surveillance cameras to assist an investigation.
Phase one of the tram will commence in November.
The two departments will also form a joint committee to coordinate in case of accidents on the trams.
The committee will meet regularly to oversee the efficient running of the system.
“This helps boost the strategic partnership relationships between the two parties in an effective manner,” said Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of the board and executive director of the RTA.
Mr Al Tayer also gave an overview of the RTA’s crisis management system, which is the control and observation unit used to monitor traffic flow on the emirate’s roads.
About 200 cameras are located on main roads, and more than 5,000 cameras are used to monitor the operation of Dubai Metro on the Red and Green lines.
The Metro’s cameras are mounted on carriages and at all stations to ensure rapid intervention during emergencies and for the safety of passengers.
