Dubai to build two new central bus stations to connect communities

The transport hubs are to be constructed in Satwa and Oud Metha

Two central bus stations are to be built in Dubai as part of a major expansion of public transport services.

The hubs in Satwa and Oud Metha will together serve up to 25,000 passengers per day.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority said the stations have better disabled access, bike racks, retail outlets and connect passengers with nearby metro stations.

"The state-of-the-art design caters to the needs of sustainability and people of determination," said director-general Mattar Al Tayer.

Oud Metha station is located close to the existing metro station of the same name and has rooftop parking.

Serving about 10,000 passengers per day, it will serve bus routes to Academic City and International City, which are not on the metro lines.

The station in Satwa - a densely populated district also not served by the metro - will accommodate about 7,800 passengers per day, rising to 15,000 if future expansion goes ahead.

Building work recently began on 17 bus stations, stops and a depot to serve Al Quoz industrial district and connect passengers with the Expo 2020 site.
