ABU DHABI // A Dh9 million project to provide raw data on the average vehicle volume, size and speed has been completed, the Department of Transport (DoT) announced on Wednesday.
The traffic counting system project deployed more than 190 advanced traffic count stations across all main roads in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region, creating a central traffic database for the whole emirate.
The system provides information for the DoT's activities that help in the design, planning and management of the main roads in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 and the Surface Transport Master Plan.
In December, the traffic count stations documented a daily traffic rate of more than 4,000 vehicles during weekdays on the motorway between Abu Dhabi and Dubai at 7am and 5pm.
An average of 6,000 vehicles passed through the motorway between Al Ain and Abu Dhabi in the early morning hours. The average daily traffic on weekdays in both directions of Mussafah Bridge was more than 90,000 vehicles.
