Cyclist hit by car after riding into oncoming traffic

The accident was the result of the cyclist's negligence, said police, who added that he was unable to move out of the way of the oncoming car.

A cyclist was injured after riding into oncoming traffic and colliding with a car.

The incident took place on Sunday near Al Salma roundabout in Umm Al Quwain.

The man was taken to Sheikh Khalifa General Hospital after injuring his back, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.

The accident was a result of the cyclist’s negligence, said Lt Col Saeed bin Arran, director of Traffic and Patrols at UAQ Police.

The lieutenant asked cyclists and bikers to avoid highways, wear fluorescent jackets - especially at night - and use bike lights.
