Residents of an Abu Dhabi suburb have been told to expect construction noise and road closures in the coming months as a major infrastructure project gets under way. Abu Dhabi Municipality said extensive works will be carried out in Khalifa City including the widening of the main streets and the laying down of new pavements. Altogether 66km of roads will be widened while 85km of cycle tracks will also be laid. In addition, about 1,400 bright white LED street lights will be installed. "Abu Dhabi Municipality appreciates the understanding of Khalifa City residents for the inconvenience associated with improvement works currently under way in the city," the authority said in a notice. "Works might involve noises, road closures and others, but once completed, the quality of living in the city will be immensely improved for the benefit of all." Officials said traffic flow should improve, and that the area will be easier to walk and cycle around once completed. The notice gave no completion date for the works. ________________ Read more: The big switch: Abu Dhabi's plan to convert old lights to bright white LEDs Relief for RAK motorists as new ring road slashes journey times Dh250m road road uprgade to transform downtown Fujairah
