ABU DHABI // Almost 7,000 vehicles were impounded for a month and fined Dh900 last year due to modifications that cause too much noise.

The traffic and patrols department at Abu Dhabi Police also said that more than 100 fines were issued for honking car horns, namely in areas where it is prohibited to do so.

The director of the department, Brigadier General Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, said it is strictly prohibited to modify cars to amplify their sound and that 6,630 vehicles were impounded for violating the rules last year.

He added that the federal traffic law of 1995 and its amendments prohibits the use of car horns near hospitals, schools, places of worship and residential areas from 10pm until sunrise.
