Abu Dhabi to roll out women-only taxis

TransAD say a fleet of 70 special women-only taxis will be in service in the first few months of this year.

A fleet of 70 special women-only taxis will hit Abu Dhabi's streets in the first few months of this year, TransAD announced today. The vehicles, reserved for females and children younger than 10, will cost the same as any other silver taxi and will have a separate telephone line for reserving a ride. The vehicles will have special "female touches and colours", officials added. TransAD also laid out plans for features designed to limit drivers from speeding, including automated warning and fining systems for vehicles that exceed set limits, such as 70kph in cities and 120kph on highways.
